Hello forum,
I have a Smart-UPS X 1500VA with an AP9631 NMC. I want to use the remote temperature probe to monitor the ambient temperature of our server room and shutdown all UPS outputs if the temperature exceeds a maximum value. I want this task to be performed without any dependance on other computers or software - so no PowerChute, etc.
I can't find a way of triggering a UPS shutdown from a temperature alarm event. Can this be done?
The only possible solution I've thought of is to use an AP9810 I/O module and connect the relay output to one of the zone inputs. If I can get the relay to respond to a temperature alarm event then I can trigger a shutdown that way. It seems silly to require an AP9810 for this task. Can anyone confirm if this will work? I.e. Can a temperature alarm event control the relay output?
Thanks,
Bob

Attached herewith are screenshots of the network management card that I have here. This has been taken from the Control Policy page.

Hi Bob,
I believe this is possible. You need to have an AP9631, AP9810 and the temperature probe. You'll be setting up device control policy on the NMC. Basically if the over temperature is triggered, it would send a signal to an output relay to change state. Once the output relay changes state and you have this connected to one of the input it can then send a signal to turn off the UPS.

JonPro, thanks for the reply. Since I don't have an AP9810 yet, I can't access the Control Policy setup page. Can you confirm that I can set an over temperature event to trigger the relay output? I just want to be certain before I buy it.
Thanks,
Bob

But why not simple just add the option to turn the UPS output of in case of overtemperature in the AP9631 firmware?
It must be one of the most common uses for a temperature sensor...
