Advice Needed - Smart UPS on Vista

Hi All,

I have just moved my computer over from XP Pro' to Vista Business. I have a Smart UPS 700

Please could you tell me which APC software I should download to enable me to get Auto-Shutdown of the computer and monitoring of the UPS status from the computer? Ideally I would like the software to email me in the event of a problem too.

The Smart UPS 700 only has a serial connection and that side of things hopefully is not going to be a problem as I do have a serial port free on the computer and I do have an APC Smart Cable.

Fantastic! Thank you so much. I was beginning to wonder whether APC would still be supporting these old Smart UPS' on Vista.

I have installed the agent as you suggested and all is 100% good. It is such a comfort to know that the system is now protected.

hi jon

a smart ups requires powerchute business edition. you will want to make sure you have the 940-0024 or 940-1524 serial cable.

i would use PCBE 9.0 agent and it supports using email notification if you have an email server and the correct set up on your home or office network.
