Adding External Battery Packs

hi,

we have a new SRT8KRMXLI which is installed and ON. The 3 additional external battery packs ( SRT192BP/192BP2)  have arrived.

My question is: Can I connect the additional battery packs to the UPS without turning it off ?

If you intend to do this in a live environment simply install the extra battery packs into the rack. Remove all of the internal battery cartridges from the pack. Connect the external battery pack cable to the next one in the line and secure with the provided screw.

Install the battery cartridges into the pack and date the install with a label . . .

Verify that the extra battery pack(s) show up in the UPS LCD, NMC, PowerChute, SmartConnect, etc. The operating runtime at this point won't be accurate so you'll need to schedule a battery calibration where there's at least 30% load on the UPS once the packs are 100% charged.

You can but make sure you connect the ground wires properly in a daisy chain before making any battery connections. If you do not then you run the risk of throwing the inverter into alert with the only way to reset is to turn the UPS off

Also to add on per (APC Manual) the UPS should be disconnected from AC mains when the ground wire is being connected to building electrical system.

As best practice and industry standard all ground wires and connections should be affixed - first. Doing so insures fault protection is in place while also offering human safety.

Rock On . . .
