APC7901 Firmware Update

I just attempted a firmware update on an older APC7901 PDU, and it looks like it failed. I am able to telnet into the device and it still has its config, however the version is still 3.7.3 and I am unable to access via the browser. I attempted a management card reset with no luck. Any suggestions from here?

BTW I'm using apc_hw02_aos392_rpdu392.exe to upgrade the firmware.

That did it. A big thanks for all your help. Just as an FYI, I tried the automated procedure numerous times without luck. I ended up having to ftp both files over to the pdu one at a time, with a reboot in between for the new firmware to take. I noticed after the fact that my connection was at 100 full duplex on the switch and the ftp connection was sporadic. I also got dropped several times while trying to connect via telnet. It could very easily have been a duplex mismatch that compounded the problem.

Perhaps this info may help someone else who has the same problem.

Ok, so I was able to use telnet and ftp to get the aos upgraded to 3.9.2 but I still get the same error message when trying to connect with a browser. Any suggestions?

You need to FTP in the rpdu app as well. You can rename the .exe to a .zip to get the app file, or run the .exe and have it update the NMC.

Are there any instructions or guides on this process?

I downloaded the manual but the firmware update instructions are pretty vague. Release notes don't really give me anything either. When you see ftp into the rdpu as well, I'm not sure what that means.

Check out APC Knowledge Base FA156047.

If you run the .exe, it should automate the process. It sounds like it didn't work the first time, but you can run it again to re-attempt.

It sounds like you started using the FTP method. In that method you load in two files: the AOSxxx.bin file and, after the card reboots, RPDUxxx.bin. It sounds like you've only loaded AOS, so the web page says there's no app loaded.

Hi Derek,

What you are missing is the Application Module (apc_hw02_rpdu_392.bin) part of the fw. You can try to just load that via ftp. You can follow the ftp process on this KBase FA156047.
