You may review the full user manual for the battery (RBC) replacement using this APC Resource Link:
Your specific APC Smart-UPS model does not indicate hot swap capabilities as such I’d recommend you schedule this during a maintenance window and power down the connected loads such as servers etc.
Than remove the front bezel, four screws, metal plate, disconnect the Anderson Power Pole connectors, eject the RBC.
Than replace the RBC in the reverse order as above.
The following action items need to be completed if available in Power Chute.
Update the battery installation date if available. Once the RBC is 100% charged manually initiate a Self Test, let pass, and allow the RBC to recover to 100% SOC ( State of Charge).
Follow up by manually initiating a battery calibration via Power Chute if available. There must be a minimum of 30% load or greater on the outputs. Allow this process to complete and wait for the RBC to return to 100% SOC.
This will help the system better reflect the battery health and operational runtime via Power Chute.
NOTE: During the maintenance window conduct the following test by disconnecting all critical loads and insert a light / radio.
Power up the system with the new RBC in place. Than unplug the RBC from the system while powered by AC Mains and report back if the system continues to operate if so you’ve validated it’s hot swappable and won’t have to schedule a maintenance window the next time the RBC needs replacement.
Report back your findings as I’m sure this information will help the next person asking the same.
