Hello,
I'm interested in the APC Smart-UPS Li-Ion, Short Depth 500VA UPS. I would like to use it for my home network switch and Synology NAS. If I connect the USB cable, will this UPS trigger a power outage to the NAS so it knows to perform a safe shut down? I have seen many floor standing models that are compatible with these NAS units but not the rack versions. Hopefully it uses the same USB protocols and would work.
Another issue is with PowerChute. If I connect the UPS via USB to the NAS how can I use PowerChute and make configuration changes. Would temporarily connecting the UPS to a PC to make changes and then disconnecting the USB save any changes I make in the UPS?

That's what I'm hoping for.
This model doesn't have an LCD screen so configuring might not be an option for me.

Hi Art -
Per Synology's UPS support list here:
https://www.synology.com/en-global/compatibility?search_by=category&category=upses&p=2
All other SMT series Smart-UPS are supported. the SMTL uses the same basic communication methods as other SMT units, so while it is not yet on their list I have no reason to think it would not work the same.
As far as configuration - You can indeed use Powerchute and the UPS will save the settings, however you can also make the majority of the settings you might want directly from the LCD screen on the front of the UPS.
Hope this helps
Liam
