APC Smart-UPS 3000VA (SUA3000RMI2U) wont power up

Hi there!

We bought an used Smart UPS 3000VA for our office. Until 3 weeks ago the USV was in proper use.

After move and built in, the USV wont start. There is no sound, no light, nothing. The power is correct connected, an tested. Is there inside an "power-protection" or something else?

Any ideas what we can do for test?

Thx an best regards.

Lukas

I have a DLA3000RMT2U that operates at 208 volt single phase (should be same topology as the SUA).  With proper "mains" voltages and the battery disconnected it will boot up and then fail the battery test (of course).  Appears your unit has some other problem, or in addition to, a battery problem.

Two immediate checks:

What is the battery pack voltage? - should be ~50 volts or better

Sure you have 230 volt single phase supply of AC power - will not run on 120 volt!

Hi!

Thank you for your answer!

Voltage of the bettery: i'll check that.

230/120 Volts, where can i change/check that? is it possible when i remove the battery-pack, that I switch the voltage? Or when we move the USV?

br.

Lukas

That voltage is your "mains" voltage that the unit is plugged in to.  In the U.S., the common voltages are 240 and 120 volts.  Usually, the plug will only work with the proper voltage.  Improper wiring or grounding can cause improper voltages at the "mains" outlet.  An electrician can check this easily.  Your specific unit requires above 160 volts or so to turn on.  You can check this in your unit's specifications.

Did you check the battery pack voltage? - you need a DC voltmeter and it should read above 52 volts or so.  However, usually a "bad" battery pack (even if it's above 48 DC Volts or so) will still let the unit try to start and then fail with a bad battery warning.

Let me know what you find.

Ok. Understand.

About the Voltage: I bought it in Europe, and the USV was in use before in Europe. So the Voltage must be 230V.

I'll check the battery.

General question: is it possible to start the USV without battery? (To find and isolate the faults)

BR an nice week

Lukas,

Unfortunately a SUA3000RMi2U will not start if the batteries are dead or disconnected. The battery cartridge is made up of 8 12v DC batteries. Each good battery should measure around 13.5v DC. If you find that some of the batteries are bad they all should be replace. You will find information on a genuine APC RBC43 at APC.com.
