APC Smart UPS 1500: all lights blink, no sound and no power

When I came in this AM, the UPS was off and the server shut down.

when I press the power button, all the lights blink, but there is no warning sound. After a second or two of blinking, they all go dark and there is still no power to server.

I ran the server power through another UPS and it powered up. I plugged the UPS into an outlet on other side of building and it still blinked and did not turn on.

Model: DLA1500. serial number 731311258

Battery has date of 7/24/07.

Is this the battery, or something else?

Yes, you are correct. Your UPS is a DLA1500 with a serial number of AS0731311258. This means that the UPS was manufactured on the 31st week of 2007. Do you recall if this unit was purchased around 2007?

Buying/replacing the battery would be a trial and error on this situation. Do you think you could find someone who has the same UPS or an SUA1500? Both the SUA1500 and your UPS uses [RBC7|http://www.apc.com/products/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=RBC7]. If there is none, and the UPS is out of warranty the best option is trading up your old unit to get a new one with a discount.

Good day Tom,

Was there any software that was monitoring the UPS or a network management card that was installed on the UPS? If you have these, it would help us provide data and event logs on what has happened to the UPS. Do you have any idea as well if there was any power interruption that occurred in your area? Let us try doing this, with the UPS unplugged from the power source press and hold the I/Test button. During this process you will normally hear a short and a long beep, as soon as you hear the long beep release the button.

Let us know if you'll hear any beep or if the UPS would not do anything. You have mentioned as well that you have another UPS, if you have there a UPS that utilizes the same battery as your Dell unit can we try to swap them?

The model number that you have provided is correct but the serial number does not appear to be something that we are using. Can you double check it?

we were out of power for 3 days. But it came back on Tuesday night and the UPS/server worked fine Wednesday.
there are no other UPS's that use the same battery, they are all smaller units.

I tried unplugging the unit and holding the button, after letting go, the unit lights flashed all over the place, then all went dark.

try this for serial number: PH-08J423-18740-782-9082

no monitoring card, but we do use some software that came with unit. I'm a lawyer, and we are approaching the lmit of my knowledge.

The serial number still doesn't follow our standard. The serial number is usually found on a small white sticker where you could find the model number as well. If you have a camera, see if you could take a picture of it.

From what you have experienced, it appears that the battery has been deeply discharged. It can be a battery problem which can be solved by a battery replacement. If we have the correct serial number, we could determine if this is still within warranty.
