APC SUA 2200 won't power on

Hello,

I came on-site to a job yesterday and one of the APC 2200's was no longer powered on. I installed/configured the UPS a little over a week ago successfully with no issues. When I came in yesterday the UPS was powered off completely.

I thought it was the outlet(s) in the room but the two Cisco switches for which it's supposed to be supplying power were now using the outlets instead of plugging into the UPS (I guess someone else did this).

The only response I'm getting from the UPS is that it'll chirp very intermittently (like every 10 sec) and when it chirps all the lights on the front control panel flash. That's the only activitly I get from it. I've tried holding in both the Test (power on) button and holding in the power off button but no success. I've disconnect/re-connected the battery, but still unable to obtain utility power. I'm not really sure what's going on. Any ideas?

It is very hot in the room that it is in since there is no AC in the building yet so I wasn't sure if that had any relevence to the problem. Any insight would be helpful! Thanks!

I'm not getting any power to the unit. Would this still be possible? If so, could it be access using the web interface or would I have to console into it?

Hi myentsch, could we get the full model and serial number of the UPS to get an idea exactly what we are dealing with. Regardless of where the ups is plugged (or even if it is plugged in) the UPS should be able to cold start. Since it appears the UPS is not able to do that we would first want to look at the batteries in the UPS. (IE try to get the battery voltage and/or if possible try to swap the bats out with some form a know working unit). Hope this helps.

Hi Mike,

Let us start with getting the Model and Serial number of the UPS. This would help us to properly troubleshoot the correct UPS.

When you deployed the UPS, did it come with a network management card or have you installed PowerChute Business Edition? These two would help us retrieve important log files that would tell us what the UPS has encountered. I would also advise to check the battery, I would like to know if the battery is bloated or if it is leaking.

You have mentioned that the UPS chirps, when does it chirps? Is it when it is connected to the power source or does it do it when you press a button? When it comes to the LED indicators, does all LED flash or there's just a couple?

As much as possible, the UPS should be deployed on a good operating environment. Failure to do so might cause an issue or damage with the unit.

If you do have a spare battery you can try it and if it is the same thing, the UPS needs replacement already.

I'm not on-site at the momem so I don't have the serial #, but the model is an APC SUA 2200R3XLNETPKG.

To answer your questions:

- Yes, it has a network management card installed and no, I have not installed the PowerChute Business Edition. The battery's physical condition looked OK when I checked yesterday. I wasn't able to swap in a battery from a working unit while on-site though.

- The chirping is a consistent chirp with about 10 sec intervals.

- Pressing either button while connected to its utility power does nothing. No sounds, no lights on the control panel flash, or anything.

- All LED indicators light up when it chirps. That's the only time they light up.

Hope this gives you a better idea. Thanks for the response!

If you can access the network management card, it would help if you can download the event.txt, data.txt and config.ini files. You can then post it here and you can remove the IP settings if you want.

These files would help us see if the UPS has logged anything about the issue that you've experienced.

To assist you on how to download it, here is the link [How can I download Event logs and Data logs and Config.ini from the Network Management Card?|http://nam-en.apc.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9321/kw/nmc%20event%20logs/session/L3RpbWUvMTMwNjMzNTY...]

If the LED's on the NMC still lits up, we can try to access it using web,ftp and console.

Let us try to do the following:

- Remove all the load on the UPS and turn if off. Unplug the UPS from the utility outlet.
- Press and hold the O/Off button for around 5 seconds or until you hear a click
- Press and hold the I/Test button, you would normally hear a short and a long beep. As soon as you hear the long beep release the button.

The last step should force the UPS to run on battery, let us know what will happen. If the issue persist, I suggest that you call our Tech Support to verify the warranty and if possible a replacement.

@JonPro

I tried the steps you suggested, but no success. No difference. Still chirps even when it's not plugged into the wall.

The only other thing I can think of now is to swap in a battery from a working UPS.

Any thoughts?
