Hello,
I have this UPS:
APC SMT2200RMI2U 1980w UPS
It is connected by USB to my Raspberry Pi running NUT and it works okay but is not reporting voltages (input and output). I think this might be fixed by a firmware update but the Firmware Update tool says is does not support the SMT2200 series.
How do I upgrade the firmware on this UPS?
Current firmware version as reported by NUT:
ups.firmware : UPS 09.3 / ID=18
ups.mfr : American Power Conversion
ups.mfr.date : 2015/10/05
ups.model : Smart-UPS 2200
Thanks,
Al

The v4.3.8.v8 FUW release notes do not show this specific SMT2200 (UPS ID 18) as supported or having firmware available.
Shows up to SMT1500 (1.5 KVA) only . . .
I suggest you try using the supplied proprietary RJ50 to RS232 Serial cable to see if the FUW detects and allows the system to be upgraded via this method.
If you see the same message on the FUW confirm with APC Technical Support what the latest firmware is for the SMT2200 UPS ID 18.
If the system has a NMC installed verify if the input / output voltage problem remains once the NUT driver is correctly defined to use SNMP.
You should also confirm if the problem exists while using the Serial cable when connected to NUT. Also see what the results are via SNMP connected to any NMS Application and report back the results.

I only have the USB cable. What can I try with that? Is there older versions of FUW I can try? Where can they be found. Thanks.

You’ll need to purchase or make the required proprietary (RJ50 - RS232) serial cable.
Suggest you contact APC Technical Support to obtain an older version of the FUW (Firmware Update Wizard).
Ask specifically (IF) there is a more recent UPS Firmware for the SMT2200 with UPS ID 18. The release notes don’t indicate this will address your specific issue nor is it supported.
As such, next steps are to validate the problem as noted up above using Power Chute, SNMP.
NOTE: UPS Firmware should only be done live over the phone with APC Technical Support while the hardware is (IN) warranty! ☝️
If the hardware is not in warranty you risk bricking a perfectly working system attempting a UPS Firmware Upgrade.
As such fully understand all requirements and prerequisites before moving forward as outlined in this APC Firmware FAQ:
