I recently picked up a used APC UPS RS 1500, with the specific model number of BR1500 on the white sticker on the bottom. When powering on, the ‘On-Line’ and ‘Overload’ lights alternately flash indefinitely. They flash with the internal batteries connected, as well as with them disconnected, but when I connect a single, new 12V8Ah battery, it just produces an intermittent beep every 5-7 seconds, with no LED’s present, until I power it off.
I know the original internal batteries are very low, measuring between 7V-9V and they will no longer take a charge. I only have one spare battery to work with at the moment. Does it simply just need two working 12V internal batteries in order to function as normal?
Also, where can I find a manual for this specific product?
Thank you in advance!

I have appended a resource link which I believe is the user manual for your specific model UPS:
The system requires two 12 volt cells to provide 24 VDC to operate correctly. You may simply purchase the same (HR) capacity / size battery or purchase the APC RBC33 from APC / authorized reseller. Let me know if you have more questions. 👍

Thank you for the timely, thorough response. I have another shipment of 12V batteries coming in Friday, so I will test it then, and give an update, so that you can close the thread if you need to. This is a great community, and I’m very thankful that I found a place that has active forums for outdated equipment such as my BR1500.
Not only that, but everything is Trek-themed!

So, I’ve installed two new 12V SLA batteries. When it boots up, the ‘On Line’ green light flashes several times, while the ‘On Battery’ yellow light remains constant. Then, the ‘On Line’ light goes out, and the ‘On Battery’ light is the only thing that remains lit. When I unplug it, simulating a power outage, it remains the same- with only the ‘On-Battery’ light illuminated steadily, and nothing else.
Is there something else that I need to do to get it to stay ‘On Line’?

First step is to connect the UPS to a computer system running the APC Power Chute software. Once connected provide the event and data logs from the system. In the interim you may adjust the sensitivity & transfer voltage as outlined in the user manual I linked before.
Doing so will force the unit to accept wider input voltage and *dirtier* power. If making the change on one, or both settings allows the unit stay online - You win! Lastly, from a purely trouble shooting perspective you can take the unit to another site (family home / work) and see if you observer the same behavior.
If you see the same on battery only mode while installed at these different sites. There may be an issue with the unit but do try out the two changes first.
Let me know . . . 👍
