APC Matrix 5000 SNMP Monitoring
Hey,
Quick question about the Matrix 5000. What cable does the comm card on the back of the Matrix use (see picture)? I am looking for the cable that fits into the empty DB9 male. Also, anyone know if it's capable of WEB/SNMP monitoring? If it's not, is it possible to change the card to an AP9606, AP9617 or AP9619?
Please see attached picture for reference.
Thank you for any help!

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Do you know which cable the AP9605 would use?

the powernet SNMP adapter only does SNMP traps - i think.
i attached the manual to this post for your reference. it should list the cable part number in there.
depending on your matrix firmware version, which erasmus was looking for, we can determine whether or not your matrix can use an AP9606 or another network management card.

Here is the unit information:
Serial Number P95035648777
UPS FW REV 5XM
The card is a 10BT SNMP Adapter 640-0801-B
Seeing the above information, can we replace the card?

Negative. Looks like you have older firmware (X) and the newer cards only work with later Y or Z firmware. Also looks like it's about 15 years old. Time for a Trade-UPS maybe?
Also, winna - I'm not erasmus. 😛

Hi,
Based on our build of materials (all parts included list) for the MX5000 SKU, no network card or accessory of any kind came with the unit. If you got one from a reseller or other third party company there could have easily been something bundled with the unit. I don't believe there were any X options (special options) for the Matrix that came with a card, nor has anyone I work with heard of one. The only communication tool the Matrix was ever shipped with was a PowerChute software bundle, which would use a serial comm. cable.

Hi,
Thanks so much for the reply. It might not have come with a card originally, but it does have the 640-0801-B installed. Take a look at the picture at the top of this post, you'll see it. It has a serial cable that goes from the card to the Matrix. This is a common card that comes in a lot of Matrix configurations.
The installed card has a serial port. I need to set it up. Do you happen to have manuals or any instructions for it?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Also, if no card came with it, then what part number card can be installed in it? Because it's an older one, not all of them are compatible. Please let me know.
Thanks,E

Hi,
I've never experienced a customer with that card coming pre-installed throughout a few years of working on Symmetra/Matrix products, but it matches the info given so far. The part number on it was AP9205, and it is so old and sparsely distributed that we do not have any digitally accessible documentation on it. Considering its age we certainly wouldn't have any paper manuals. You can use a AP9617/AP9619 or AP9630/AP9631 with the Matrix units if their firmware version as seen through the info/status screens on the LCD display is "Rev. Z". Any other firmware rev. will not support a network card that is currently sold...an AP9606 may work but compatibility with even that card isn't guaranteed to provide full communication. I would check with sales to confirm for pricing and availability.

You might find the PowerNet MIB useful. We only append to it, so I suspect it contains all the OIDs that the AP9205 supports. If you can get the device set up on the network (I'm afraid I have no clue how), then you could walk it with snmpwalk or similar.

Hi Guys,
Thank you so much for the previous information. However, every expert here was completely wrong. If you remove the card that came with the Matrix, there's nothing behind it. You can not install an AP9605/AP9607/AP9617 into this Matrix. It doesn't even matter what firmware you have, the unit does not support any WEB/SNMP cards.
Please take a look at the pictures I have included.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi there,
The card on the left of the photo looks like an AP9605 PowerNet SNMP Adapater
The card on the right of the photo looks like an AP9205 10BT PowerNet SNMP Adapater (but without the external case).
The 9205 I have is an external box powered from the serial connection. Power it up and use SNMPview or similar to check the community string (probably public).
Hope this helps.

Hey,
Does anyone have access to records which can indicate what WEB/SNMP card came with the MX5000?

Is there a part/model number on that comm card? Also, I'm wondering how old it is - what's the serial # on that MX5000EU (I see part of the sticker in the picture with the model but not the serial).
As for your other question, if the Matrix has later firmware revisions (Y or Z), it will support those other cards. To find the firmware:
1. Go to the front panel of the Matrix
2. Press the far left button until UPS Diagnostics appears
3. Press the scroll button until the UPS FW REV option appears
4. Look for the first letter in the revision number. This will be the firmware revision.

Hi,
Thank you for the reply. I don't think that comm card has a part number on it, it's the standard card that came with the MX5000. I will look for the other information and post it here shortly.
Thank you and happy Holidays!
