I'm working on resurrecting an older Matrix 3000 with an XR battery box. Before I buy some 75ah batteries I decided to dust it off and give it a try with some 17ah batteries. Connected them to the yellow plugs, put them in the XR battery box, and fired it up.
Unit comes up but when I try to enter the password it says wrong password. Guess I forgot. I know that you could reset it with the software and a serial cable but I don't have the software and I have a number of straight through cables.
So question: Is there a procedure to reset the password I can use with putty/hyperterm?
Thanks!
Chris

Thanks for the reply: No, this unit does not have the Ethernet board, so I'm working with the password on the console (4 letters, AAAA is the starting point). I'll try resetting the processor board and putting it in/out of bypass to see if that clears this message.

Hi Chris,
I think you're trying to reset the password on the APC Network Management Card (NMC) that is in the Matrix so take a look at this FAQ http://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA156075. You may want to look more closely at the NMC installed in the UPS to check the exact model which is typically printed on the faceplate near the RJ-45 ethernet jack - I am guessing it is AP9606 or AP9617 depending on the age of the Matrix so the FAQ has what would be required for password reset on both of those NMC models.
The default password is usually apc/apc, not sure if you've tried that.
The other possibility you may be talking about I realize is the password on the UPS's LCD display. If you want to clear that versus the NMC's password, here is an FAQ on that: http://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA157457
