Hi all,
I purchased an smx1500rm2unc with an AP9631 NMC2 card. The device works great, including the NMC2, but the firmware is extremely old. The firmware upgrade utility failed, so onto other methods.
The bootmon file is apc_hw05_bootmon_100.bin, so I am unable to run the "factory_reset" and "factory_reset_confirm" options. I read that you should be able to upload the new bootmon file and it will clear out the old one, but the transfer fails after 64b when transferring over xmodem.
I next moved onto a USB thumb drive with the "apcfirm" directory, but that doesn't seem to do anything but boot the OS. I'm using an older USB drive, but I see it says USB 1.1 and good luck finding one of those.
Lastly, I tried FTP as well. Same issue where the transfer starts, then fails.
I really think all methods are failing at this same exact step due to the flash storage being full on the device, but because I can't format the flash to remove the old firmware images, I'm having trouble finding another way. I tried to delete the files over FTP, but I guess it blocks the delete command.
I've tried both the 6.x and 7.x firmware, but they both have the same bootmon_109.bin file. Do I need to upgrade to another version first? Please help! Thanks.

I've had some issues with bootmon, mainly trying to connect before the card is fully up.
I'd get BM> at the console.
I recovered by pulling the card out and re-seating it.
Try that, then reset the card to factory default via the reset hole next to the RJ45 port and see if that clears your issue. Use a stiff paperclip and hold the internal button depressed for about 35 seconds. Be gentle.
You'll need to change reconfigure your IPv4 settings then the upgrade tool should work, just be sure to select ftp.and use ID/PW of APC/APC
If you're Firmware is older than 5.1.x you'll need to upgrade to 5.1.7 before going to a newer version or you'll lose your IP settings. If you have serial access that shouldn't be an issue you and I think you can go straight to latest FW.

Thanks for your response. My firmware is currently 5.0.3, so I'm wondering if the 5.7.1 firmware upgrade will work. Do you know if there is a way to obtain the 5.7.1 firmware? I only see a 6.x and 7.x version on the website.
However, I did try the serial access with the xmodem transfer. I was trying to apply the 6.x and 7.x versions above though and the transfer kept freezing at 64B and the only way I could get a response again was if it pulled the card. BM> loads every time with no problem and the transfer starts with no problem, but keeps freezing at 64B.
A manual FTP transfer as well as the Firmware upgrade utility with FTP transfer seems to start, then freeze as well.
I noticed another post that said there was a batch of serial numbers for these cards that the firmware could not be upgraded. I emailed Scheider Electric support, but so far no response after a week. =(
Thanks again!

You can get 5.1.7 here

From there I haven't had any issues upgrading to 6.9.6.
