I was wondering what does the lithium battery do on the AP9617 management card. If I remove it, all the configuration is still there. What purpose has lithium battery on AP9617 management card?

My old SU2200NET/AP9617 combo is of 1999 vintage. I guess it's about time to replace it.

It powers the real-time clock.

I wouldn't worry. Unless you've left the card out of the UPS, it's been on wall power most of that time. Datasheet for the part is here.

That's good to know. How do you know if it needs replacing? The AP9617/18/19 manual, the version I have at least, is totally silent on the battery other than when discussing recycling. Thanks in advance!

I've never had to replace it. I suppose if the card loses track of time during a power outage, it's worth replacing the battery.
