Hi I have SMU3000RMI2U with an AP9617.
The AP9617 was configured previously and has a solid green light on teh righthand side saying that it has a valid ip configuration. However i dont know the IP Address.
How can i reconfigure the IP address?
I have a AP9827 cable - USB to RJ50 - is this of use or do i need the 940-0024C and plug into the serial port on the Rack Mount UPS and then use putty?
Regards
Nick

Thanks for the reply - I dont believe there is a factory reset on the AP9617. Just a reset of the password only....
I have tried the APC Device IP Configuration Wizard but because i dont know the IP that is set i cant find it with the typical 192.168.0.1 IP range, i have tried any other ranges.
My NMC card doesnt have a console port - it just has the RJ45. However my UPS (SMU3000RMI2U) does have a serial port and USB (rj modular) style plug.

To reset the settings on an AP9617, you would need to log in over some means and issue a command from the interface. AP9617/18/19 does not support resetting settings or doing what we call a "format" through the reset button.
Our documentation on configuring/setting up a Network Management Card of any model is here -> http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=en&locale=en_US&id=FA156064
If the AP9617 does not have an IP yet, you could try doing the crossover connection to it from a laptop and try running the APC Device IP Configuration Wizard. If it does have an IP, you could still do that except maybe run a packet capture to see if you can see what the IP address on the AP9617 is through there and perhaps try and log into it if the username and password are known or are the defaults of apc/apc.

If you don't care about the configuration on the AP9617, you could do a factory reset. That will cause it to try to obtain an IP address via DHCP, but unfortunately it will ignore responses that don't have a special "magic cookie" option set. But the APC Device IP Configuration Wizard should see it and let you configure the IP address.
Normally you use the special 9-pin (on both ends) serial cable to talk to the NMC's console port, but that depends on what connections the UPS has, unless you put the card in something like an AP9600 expansion chassis with an AP9505 transformer (I keep one of these on my bench for this specific purpose). You may need to do a password warm reset (which switches it back to apc/apc) if it was previously configured with some other username/password that you don't know.
The reset procedures as well as the device wizard are available from the support section of the main APC site.

The function of what the reset button did over time has changed in the various firmwares.
A serial port would be the best solution if you can find one and your UPS supports it to talk to the management card.
The IP wizard should work if you directly connect the PC the wizard runs on to the NMC with an Ethernet cross-over cable. Once you assign it the desired address, you should be able to re-connect it to the cable you temporarily removed for the crossover.

Thanks for your reply - So i can use my laptop directly connected to the NMC via a crossover cable and teh AUto IP COnfig wizard should detect it?
But from what i have read the AP9617 does not to a full reset of the card - it only does a password reset.

Thanks Anglea, i ended up using an RS232 to usb, APC serial cable and putty (latest version) and was able to log in after pressing the reset button twice and using apc/apc.
Configured IP and all good
Will the AP9617 work with any NTP server for time?
