AP9613 Backward Compatibility

Hi

Can anybody advise is the AP9613 relay card fully backwardly compatible with the AP9610?  The AP9613 seems a bit more intelligent & configurable - just need to confirm that it will work in older UPS models given that AP9610 has been discontinued.

Also can the AP9610 be replaced with AP9613 when the UPS is running - or does UPS need to be in bypass / shutdown?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Angela previously provided a compatibility listing of NMCs and the UPS systems in which they will work.  Please find that information in the link above.

Hi Joe

Thank you for your response.  Not sure if I am missing something, or if I have posted in the wrong section - the particular cards I am interested in are the AP9613 and AP9610 - hardwired relay modules and not NMCS2 comms modules.

Can anybody confirm compatibility of these?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick,

AP9610 compatibility is listed here -> http://www.schneider-electric.us/en/faqs/FA156152

AP9613 compatibility is listed here -> http://www.schneider-electric.us/en/faqs/FA165616

AP9610 supported only the older style UPS-link UPSs. AP9613 supports the older style UPSs and newer style UPS units. If you have an older style UPS and you're just upgrading, then yes, functionality is the same if you choose to use the AP9613 dipswitch configuration which is identical to AP9610 dipswitch configuration. Sounds like that is your scenario.

If you were trying to put an AP9613 in a newer UPS, then there is some slightly different functionality based on the newer unit capabilities.

I would suggest searching our knowledge base for AP9613 and browse some info we have just in case: http://www.apc.com/site/support/us/en/faq/

For example, what AP9613 sees as faults may be slightly different than AP9610 in certain scenarios but you can change the custom config to reflect "legacy fault" configurations. It is easier to just read the knowledge base articles that I slaved over to create tongue-out

Yes, the card is hot swappable. You can swap it when your UPS is in operation. Make sure to adjust the dipswitches first if you need to. Or, if you want to see what the special utility available via USB connection on Windows, you can do that too if you put the dipswitches into configuration 4 for "custom."

You're very welcome. I forgot to note too, we've had a few firmware upgrades for AP9613 as well. v2.1.0 is the latest which I recommend upgrading to if you can. Not sure what would be on a card that you order depending on where you get it. You can upload the firmware update through the utility (and you don't have to put the dipswitches into custom mode to do that, only if you wanted to make input/output relay action changes).

I have had a look at the Compatibility for AP9613 and AP9610.   I have to monitor some Galaxy 5000 UPSs.  These seem to have a different type of Relay Interface Card with a cover over it.

Can you advise is the AP9613 compatible with the Galaxy 5000 or is a different card type required?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick,

Per http://www.schneider-electric.us/en/faqs/FA165616 , MGE Galaxy 5000 is not supported by the AP9613 SmartSlot Card.

I looked up the MGE 5000 user's guide and it said: The UPS is already equipped with a relay communications card. But it is possible, with this option, to add another card with programmable power-relay functions. The user's guide goes over setting it up from what I could tell.

66069 is the part number of this relay card for most MGE branded UPS units. But, it may require a Mutli-slot expander from what I can tell. You may want to double check with MGE 3 phase support/sales if you need a secondary MGE Galaxy 5000 relay card in addition to that one that is supposedly already in the UPS per the note above. I am not an MGE communications card expert as I would consider myself with the APC communication cards innocent.
