I have the 9617 SNMP cards that have been failing more and more. I have order more of the new cards but need to get the old ones working at a remote location. I have a tech on-site and we have reseated the card. I see teh mac address in the core switch arp table but it never gets an IP address. I have used teh paperclip reset method to reset to defaults, move the port on the switch, swapped cables and I cannot get it to pick up an IP. I also have teh tech trying locally to configure the card but since its a 9pin serial interface I need a USB adapter. This does not work because teh software that coems with the card assumes com1 which is not the port used when I am using the USB/serial convertor. Any ideas. Would this have to do with teh Comms card which I have had him reset as well.
I also have a card that I can telnet to but I cannot add to the ISX manager. It is setup correctly but wont show up in the manager,.

hi
to begin - the "paper clip method" you mentioned, to reset to defaults, does not reset the card to defaults. it is merely used in the [password reset procedure|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=7879] as well as just forcing a management interface reboot (warmstart) which does not change any values.
by default, these cards come configured with a DHCP cookie enabled. it is Option 43 on a DHCP server. if you do not disable this cookie option, the card will NOT receive an IP address automatically. [click here to view the quick start guide|http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z5QDZ_R0_EN.pdf] to help you with that - page 14 in the PDF. [this guide can help you with checking the Status and link LEDs to see what the card is currently doing|http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/ASTE-6Z5QEW_R0_EN.pdf]
i suggest you take a look at [this APC knowledgebase article|http://nam-en.apc.com/cgi-bin/nam_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3061] which goes over all initial setup options in detail.
hope this helps!
