I have a 7902 with a 30A input. I'm moving the equipment to a new facility which only offers 20A service. The current load is <16A.
My question is, can I safely use a plug adapter to accept the 20A input as long as I do not go over 16A? Is there anything else I should be concerned about?
Eventually, I'd like to replace this with an AP7830, but I would prefer if I could avoid that expense for now.
Thank you,
E.

I'm sure you haev figured out your answer by now, but this is doable. I haev been doing this in my datacenter for 3 years with this unit. I have two of them plugged into two 20A circuits using adapters.
I have maxed the load out on each of breakers during testing and everything worked like a charm.

Hi Eric,
I don't think you can do this with PDU's as you can with UPS's. The problem you're going to run into is that you have a 30A PDU that probably has two breakers, each around 20A, or a total of 30A for the entire PDU. When you degrade that to a 20A receptacle, you're changing the overall current limit for the PDU. I also don't know how this would operate on a 20A receptacle even with no load attached, as I've never tested it.

Thank you for the information. I'm aware of the breakers, although my understanding was that if they are simply breakers, they are passive and will only trip if the current exceeds their maximum rating. The more I think about it, the more I think it should be doable. On the other hand, I've just checked the resale value of used 7902 units and see that I might be able to sell it for more than I'd buy the corresponding 20A unit for... so I might just ebay it.
Thanks.
