3KVA quiet model suggestion?

hi:

   we have a small office and need a 3KVA ups. previously we purchase a Delta 3KVA ups, but it was too noisy so we return it back. I think APC maybe a good choice, but after reading the posts about the fan noise of new model in the forum, I am not sure now. I don't know if there are any 3KVA APC models suitable for office now? all our PCs and servers are quiet. so we need a quiet ups to make a comfortable working environment.

   thanks for any suggestions. (if  there are other brands which can offer this kind of product, please let us know also...)

Most of our UPSs list their audible noise in dB on the SKU web pages. Do you have a specific value you are looking for?

Also, are you looking for any other capabilities we'd need to consider before picking a UPS? Like external battery pack capability, rackmount or tower, etc.

       I have read the spec. but I find that spec is not the same as the ear feeling. Delta 3KVA is about 50 db in spec.

we measure the actual sound, it is 47 db. but the noise is unbearable.(Delta already change the fan for us, or it will be even louder!) I have never met such a noisy ups, the guy install the ups also said that.

I am looking for a tower model, and 3KVA is enough. I can accept 5KVA if that will be quiet. APC 3000 is about 53 db in spec, so in spec it is louder than Delta, but I doubt it. I think maybe the sound type matters.

    anyway if all the APC model are louder than 50 db, maybe I should look for something else which is made for office, not machine room.

I think its tough to say what's noisy and whats not - especially for me. I don't think any of our UPSs of this size are noisy, including the smaller Back UPS get a lot of people tend to complain about them when I don't see an issue. Then it also depends on where these are located. For instance, when its in a home in a bedroom, I imagine sometimes the sound is unbearable but during the date it is not noticeable.

For a 3kVA UPS, I'd probably start looking at something with SMT SKUs, if available in your region. If you don't need external battery pack capability and you can use a line interactive UPS, then something like SMT3000I might be good for you. I am not sure how many outlets you need and of what type though. also, I see that you are in taiwan. I am not sure if SMT3000I is available there. I changed my country website to taiwan and saw this -> http://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=165&ISOCountryCode=tw - seems like there is only a rackmount UPS available though in 3000VA when I set my country to Taiwan.

    thanks again for your quick reply. you are correct. in Taiwan I can only buy SUAXXXXX (both rackmount and tower)  and SURTXXXX models. there are no SMT models at Taiwan. I check the spec of SMT models, it is 53 db also.

  after searching I found there are UPS vendors at Taiwan which made ups for office usage. their quality is not as good as APC(I test them few years ago). but I will give it a try to see if they are quiet.
