3000 XL convert from 208v to 120v

is there a way to convert a 208v model of the 3000XL to 120v operation? A step down xfmr would take care of the output, but the new location its going in doesnt have 208v available. Hopefully these have a way to change the input/output voltage and swap the power entry and output modules.

Tony,

That's going to be impossible. The input side of the UPS is expecting to see two hots and a ground, for a nominal hot to hot voltage of 208. You're ideally trying to feed it a hot of 120, neutral and ground. The UPS, even if you tried to re-wire it, will probably still run on battery because it's only seeing one of the two legs.

yes, but what is the physical difference between the 2 models? is the PCB different? Are the 2 transformers different? Is simply a firmware change?

208v is available almost everywhere. Ask the utility if it's available at the panel, if so, it's just a matter of adding a circuit.

If you have 240v available, you can use a 240-208 auto-transformer.

i realize i could accomplish this with a pair of transformers, but that isnt an ideal situation. For the cost of the pair of transformers i could just replace the ups with a 120v model. I would however like to find out if there is a way to convert this 208v model to 120v

Tony,

If you're just looking for standard 208 to 120 and needing NEMA 5-20's (commercial standard) plugs, the AP9626 will work for a Rack solution, or the SURT003 will work for a tower solution.

What are you trying to run from the UPS? A lot of IT equipment are fitted with world-wide power 96-264v power supplies and many can even accommodate dual-hot, no neutral connection as such wiring is used in Norway (230v delta), so you might be able to run them right off of 208v. If there's a selector switch, select 230v.

I'm almost positive it's the PCB board and the composition of the transformers. However, I can't disclose that information since APC's policy is that there are no user-replaceable parts outside of the Battery.
