2 UPS one with a AP9631 the other with a AP9630

I currently have 2 x UPS powering my vmware environment set up for redundancy.  Both have an AP9630 installed however I want something that will shut down when the room temperature goes too high ie the AC has failed.

Can I replace one of the AP9630 for a AP9631? Therefore 1 UPS would have a AP9630 and the other AP9631 but both protecting the servers against power cuts and AC failure? IE if the temperature was too high the servers would be shutdown using PCNS?

Thanks

They should not have to be for this to work as far as I know. I'd certainly try it without upgrading or you can downgrade the 6.0.6 to 5.1.7 if you want. Let me know if you need the v5.1.7 firmware file. When you downgrade, then we'd just recommend a format to wipe out flash to ensure integrity of the system.

Right, new NMC installed.  Probe plugged in and working. (suffered from the email bug in the firmware and had to reset the card)

On the Config events page in PCNS - I see the option for "Temperature Probe 1 Out Of Range" and the option to shutdown.  Where is the Range set, I have logged in to the 9631 itself and gone to the config > i/o > temp and clicked on that probe.

However under the Temperature Thresholds there are Max, High, Low and Minimum and Hysteresis.  Which one is used by PCNS?  I am logged in to the NMC using the user that PCNS is connected to the NMC.

Thanks, very helpful I can actually contact who knows the products properly!

smile

And PowerChute will react to the first violation that occurs - whether it be low/min/high/max - they are all considered out of range. I'd suggest considering only enabling the one you want PowerChute to shutdown on. Or, if you enable high/max, high will happen first of course but perhaps you still want to get notifications from the NMC if the temperature gets even higher.

So, anyway, "out of range" on PCNS is any alarm/violation relating to temperature. Any you select on the NMC too, the NMC itself will warn you in the interface (and send out notifications if configured).

Yes, you can do this. A "temperature out of range" event, when used in a multiple UPS scenario, is an exception in the case that only one UPS needs to report it for it to trigger a shutdown (whatever you configure as the event action).

http://www.apcmedia.com/salestools/PMAR-9E5LVY/PMAR-9E5LVY_R0_EN.pdf - refer to PDF page 32 for what I found.

Thanks, I can't check that link as the site is undergoing Maintenance.

Does "temperature out of range" appear in the PCNS list once a 9631 is installed?  I don't have that event listed yet.

Thanks

Yes it should once PCNS realizes you have an environmental monitoring card. Also, depending on your AP9631 firmware version, you may need to verify the probe is attached (see this article -> Why is the Environment Tab missing from the web interface on my AP9631 NMC2? | FAQs | Schneider Elec...). As long as you can see the temperature information on the AP9631. it should show in PCNS once you register/have PCNS looking at the AP9631.
