Wiser Gen 2 - CH Cycling every 10 minutes

We have a Worcester Bosch 18 RI boiler (non-open therm) connected to a Wiser Gen 2 thermostat. We noticed that the thermostat would ask the boiler to come on and go off every 10 minutes. We spoke with the UK support team, who explained that this is an industry standard for all smart thermostats. They advised that we use the Heat Pump mode to overcome this.

We have now set the system to heat pump, and yes, it works like a normal thermostat - however, we have lost all of the INSIGHTS information....... and the support team do not seem to want to know.

Most houses in the UK (except for the ones built in the last 10 years) will have their GSH sized on the maximum output of the radiators which mean that they must be upto normal operating temperature e.g. 60 or 70 deg. cel. When you cycle a boiler every 10 minutes the radiator does not have time to warm up as it take 3 minutes for the boiler to run through is warm up procedure before fully opening the gas valve. leaving only 7 minutes to heat the house up.

Running a boiler in this was is not only very inefficient (the water pump is working for an excessive time (our electric consumption dramatically increased) but is also creates excessive wear on the boiler (feedback from British Gas). It also means the house does not come up to temperature...............

This system is not cheap and we choose it because of the INSIGHTS data which we are now are no longer able to see. Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @OKC171166 ,

Thanks for your message. For Insights issue, did you make the operations described here ?

If you continue not to have Insights displayed, please contact the local customer support for assistance.

Concerning the "heating" questions, when cycling is set to 10 mins, it doesn't mean necessarily that the boiler will stop every 10 min.

If the heat demand is important, meaning that the current temperature is mush lower than the set point, the Wiser system will instruct the boiler to fire all the time, until the set point is almost reached.

Once the temperature is close to the set point, Wiser will reduce slightly the boiler's cycle to avoid overshooting the set point.

Finally, Wiser will stabilize at a cycle where the current temperature is almost equal to the set point.

Best regards.

David

David, thank you for your reply. When set to a Gas boiler, it always seems to fire every 10 minutes and off for 10 minutes, even when the set temperature is more than 2 deg. cel. more than the actual. Are you saying that this is correct? The boiler takes 3 minutes to run through its start-up sequence before it fully opens up to full capacity, e.g., the burner. increases. This does not allow the radiators to even get warm and even now the house does get warmer (it is very mild weather in the SE of the UK). The UK support team have told me to use the "Heat Pump" setting and this keeps the boiler firing until the set temperature is reached BUT it stops the INSIGHTS page from working. Does Insights work with the HEAT PUMP setting?
