Hi community 

Are there any specific requirement for a modem to support the External Serial GPRS/3G/LTE modem support (PPP) with the SCADAPACK 474?

Is there a reason that you couldn't use a 'normal' 3G/LTE modem/router device and just talk pure IP (via Ethernet port)?

The PPP capability is probably a carry over legacy from the SCADAPack E-series devices, and given how little it is generally used I would not really trust that it has been well tested in the x70 series.

Have you already tried this with a particular modem and have encountered an issue with it, or are you looking to scope out deploying such in the future?

My recommendation would be to avoid this configuration if you can, and stick with a routing modem and IP over ethernet interface.

If you really need to use PPP over serial, then I'd bench test it with the particular modem that you intend on using, and prepare to do some snooping on the serial comms and raising a bug ticket for it if it doesn't just work out of the box.

It looks that it's only Serial 3 / Serial 4 (and internal Serial 5) that support PPP/TCPIP.

I'd also be a little concerned at the explicit mention of TCP in there if you are thinking of using UDP comms.  Not sure quite why it mentions TCP...

USB modem doesn't look to be supported, since it's only real serial ports listed, and not any USB ports (so the USB A can't do a host connection to a Huawei or similar cheap LTE modem dongle.. which is a little unfortunate).
