Here's a brief summary of how to set up Trio diagnostics within Geo SCADA for the J Series license-free radios. NOTE that with J Series you do not enter each radio's IP address individually. You'll enter the Access Point radio's IP address on the Channel tab of the Channel object, but as you add each radio you'll just enter its serial number.
- First, it is assumed that the radio network is operational. Use the Wizards if necessary.
- Ensure you know the serial number of all radios in the system. A remote connection can discover this if necessary.
- In the Access Point radio ONLY, enable eDiags and enter the computer's IP address & activate. Also, note the use of IP port 1040.
- The following instructions are for Geo SCADA...
- Create a new Group specifically for the Trio radio diagnostics
- In Trio Diagnostics -> Advanced select a new Trio Radio Channel
- Place the channel in service.
- On the Connection tab select a TCP/IP connection and UDP type
- Enter the IP address of the Access Point radio, and IP port 1040 for both the Host and local ports
- Set Line speed appropriately eg 115200 bps. Other scan parameters may need to be adjusted.
- Create a new Trio Radio Set and place it In Service
- Select the Channel already created
- The default Controller Address of 1 is OK
- Create a new Trio radio and name it Access Point
- Place it In Service and assign it to the Set just created
- Set the model to J Series and the Type to Access Point
- Enter the radio's serial number
- Create further Trio radios and name appropriately
- Place radios In Service and assign to the same Set
- Set the model to J Series and the type to Remote or Bridge as appropriate
- Enter the radio's serial number
- You may want to create sub-groups for each radio's points, or once first radio is configured use template/instance if many radios in the system.
- As one example, you may want to monitor Temperature...
- Create a new Analog input point, enable Historic and place it In Service
- Assign the point to the appropriate radio
- Specify the desired PIC parameter eg Internal Temperature
- Select a Retrieval Interval, Scan group as desired
- Set Alarm Limits as desired
- To test, drag the analog input to the default mimic and drop its Formatted Value

Hello again. Very unlikely the problem is firmware-related, unless perhaps yours is very old. The current version is always available on the se.com website. You may try upgrading but it's likely something else. I went thru that exact procedure yesterday as I was writing the instructions, and it worked right away. Just to reiterate, the channel must be UDP, port 1040, and the IP address of the Access Point radio is entered into the channel.
If the firmware upgrade process does not help (and again I doubt it will) I suggest you contact our Tech Support team, who can guide you through in a scree-sharing session if necessary.

Updating the firmware is quite easy, and there’s a discussion of how to do it in the user manual. The latest firmware for all Trio radios can always be found by going to the Trio pages on our website:
Here’s a quick summary of the simple firmware update process:

Hello Joel,
So I have done everything according to the instructions and the channel for the radios keeps showing State as failed. Any advise?
Also do you happen to know the latest version of Firmware? maybe it can be that?
thanks,
