The T4c and T4e RTU's have high speed Counter inputs (8 on each) that can count at 100hz but due to the sensitivity of these inputs when counting a clean opto-coupled input is recommended. The following scope capture shows a burst of 5ms pulses.
However sometimes the instrument on site due to age or installation cannot provide this type of recommended input and relay "bounce" becomes a significant issue, as shown in this capture, which shows several full scale transitions.
For this purpose a Digital input can be used with its minimum pulse width feature to 'de-bounce' the input, which can then be attached to a state counter for counting.
