Hello,
I was just wanting to find out more information in regards to VAM4C weighting. I have found that in the manual that there is a base weighting of 32 and then the 4 switches within SG1 generate additional weighting to give each VAM4C a unique weighting.
What I cant find is where this zone weighting information is processed by the VAMP321 so as when there are multiple VAM4C and multiple VAMP321s are in the same communication bus how does each VAM321 recognise the current vote from its respective 4C unit.
Thanks,
Matthew Pearce

Hi @Anonymous user ,
I think you are asking about VAM 4C unit address?
The address is set by four dip switched numbed from 5 to 8. The dip switch 8 being LSB for the address and dip switch 5 being MSB for the address. Address offset is 32. Therefore....
MSG (DIP 5) - LSB (DIP 😎
0000 - address 32
0001 - address 33
1111 - address 47

Hi @Anonymous user ,
each of I/O units must have a different address. It means, the dip-switch setting is different in each of the I/O units.
Once the addresses are correctly set, V321 is given a command to "search" all the units connected. This process is called install.
During the install process V321 is polling all possible addresses. The units that respond to poll will be included in arc protection installation.
Weighting itself has not other significance. It is just a way to convert dip-switch setting, which represents a binary number, to decimal system number.

Thanks again for the response Juha,
The reason that I am asking is that I have an existing circuit where there is a common arc I/O bus connected between multiple 4C units connected to multiple VAMP321s. When you conduct an install it will search the arc I/O Bus for any I/O units connected and the weighting will designate a binary address for each of the VAM4Cs.
The current vote that is then circulated by the VAM4Cs to the VAMP321, is this purely seen as an external current vote (I>ext) within the VAMP321? If it is seen as an external current vote, then if multiple 4Cs are in an arc I/O Bus then is that a cumulative current vote to the VAMP321 seen as an external vote?
I have found in the manual where the weighting of a 10LD designates the zone that is seen (i.e an address of 00-07 will be seen as a light vote in zone 1, 08-15 will be zone 2 etc). I am just wondering if the VAM4Cs follow a similar process and if so what setting within vampset allows this condition to be altered.
Thanks for your responses with this, you are being extremely helpful

Thanks Juha for the response.
I can see how this sets the address of the unit, after this address is set how does the VAMP321 unit differentiate between the different weighting of the Vam4Cs and how does the VAMP321 then use this information?
