PowerLogic™ P5 (Easergy P5) PTP & RSTP

Hi,

End user has a request to use PTP time synchronization and the communication architecture should be RSTP ring for IEC61850 protocol.

As per manual for the PowerLogic™ P5 PTP is only available with HSR/PRP module on slots MN.

There is also possibility to have RSTP card on slot L on the same relay. At least in the order form.

Here are some questions that came in mind:

1. Can HSR/PRP and RSTP card be on the same relay?

2. If PTP is only available with HSR/PRP card, does this means that the PTP time synchronization clock should be connected to this ring on slot NM? or PTP can be provided trough RSTP (slot L) ethernet ports?

3. Is there a way to have RSTP and PTP simultaneously?

Thanks for the answers.

Bets regards,

Thanks for replay.

"But why not use PRP or HSR , these two protocols are all redundancy protocol, more stable than RSTP. "

I agree, but it was the tender specification. Unfortunately technical aspect of the request is pointless, but other vendors have that implemented (PTP+RSTP) so we needed to choose two cards to have a valid offer.

Dear colleague:

Kindly find my comments in blue regarding you question.

1. Can HSR/PRP and RSTP card be on the same relay?

You can select HSR/PRP board and one ethernet card(with RSTP) at slot L for P5X30, but it not a case for P5X20 as no slot L available for P5X20.

2. If PTP is only available with HSR/PRP card, does this means that the PTP time synchronization clock should be connected to this ring on slot NM? or PTP can be provided trough RSTP (slot L) ethernet ports?

Currently for P5 product, Only PRP/HSR board support PTP time synchronization.  RSTP mode not supported.

3. Is there a way to have RSTP and PTP simultaneously?

I think it need to select PRP/HSR board for PTP and another ethernet board at slot L for RSTP.

But why not use PRP or HSR , these two protocols are all redundancy protocol, more stable than RSTP.

Hope these can answer your question.

Chunmei
