i understand the purpose of adjustable breakers in applications where tripping coordination is necessary, but if an adjustable breaker feeds directly to a single load is it suitable to leave the breaker in the factory (most sensitive) setting position? since there are no other breakers to coordinate with, i see no reason to make any adjustments, is that assumption / observation correct?

The settings are usually specified by the installation design office. So it is important to understand & pay attention to the settings.
Then if the "factory" settings suit the requirements of the installation / load for safety and continuity of service, no problem to leave them as they are.
Hope it answers your question.

Hello @RLQ,
Not entirely, you also change settings based on whats in front of the breaker.
Like length and type of cable etc.
We used to have Curve direct for this kind of calculations.
Curve Direct
It seems though it changed to a cloud based service which the links doesnt go through, maybe something for SE to solve.
Hope this gives you some insight!
