I am trying to run control expert and am having performance issues while online with the PLC. I am running VMWare workstation V17.5 with Windows11. While using control expert offline, not connected to the PLC, the performance is acceptable; a little slow to startup but manageable.
When connected to the PLC with either ethernet or the USB cable it becomes very, very slow. If I switch between between routines, it takes anywhere from a few seconds to upwards of 15 seconds to fully load the routine and get the updated status of the variables. If I try and make online edits, it takes even longer to load. The build and download of the updates is fine speed wise, it just seems to be the loading of the routine pages (I use FBD) as I switch from one to another or when starting and doing edits.
Has anyone encountered this before? I have reloaded the software, tried a new VM amongst other things.
Thanks
John

It's a VMware issue. Right-click VMware -> Run as Administrator and I'll bet it will fix all your slowness.

this is not necessarily a solution. Please note that V15.0, V15.0 SP1, V15.1 and V15.2 have been validated for WINDOWS 10 64 bit.
V15.3 and onwards has been validated for WINDOWS 11 as per the table from the readme.Pdf.
VMWare V15.5 was recommended for V15.3 of ECE.
Later versions such V16.1 to run better and support later operating systems. i.e.
This does not solve your problem unless you update to V15.3

I always try to find out whether there is a resource bottleneck by running Windows Task Manager (in the VM and also on the host machine).
Please look at the CPU, RAM, and disk performance values.
For instance, if the amount of RAM is insufficient, Windows will swap some memory blocks to the hard disk, making your applications way slower. Add more RAM to the VM in this case (if available on the host).
CPU performance is not so easily addressed. If your host machine is not bottlenecked, you can try to add a extra vCPU (core) to the VM, but I'm not sure how well Control Expert will handle multi-CPU / multithreading.
For harddisk performance, I can only recommend using SSD drives and not running your VM from a mechanical hard drive, nor from a removable (USB) medium.

Also, I've had some luck in the past disabling "Accelerate 3D graphics".

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, I am locked into using V15 SP1 due to clients preference. I will look into setting up a Windows 10 64 bit VM.

This made a huge difference, although I'm not sure why.
