Administrators and Operator users with permissions for All locations can discover devices on up to three EcoStruxure IT Gateways at a time in IT Expert.

An IT Expert subscription is not required.

Devices are discovered into All locations. Devices can be moved into other locations after discovery.

Modbus device discovery in IT Expert is not supported. You discover Modbus devices in the Gateway software interface.

Requirements

  • Available only for Administrators and Operator users with permissions for All locations
  • Gateway software version must be 1.23.1 or newer.
  • Gateways must be registered in IT Expert.
  • Active Device Communication credentials and File Transfer credentials must be configured on each Gateway first.

Go to Device discovery.

If some of your Gateways do not meet the requirements for device discovery, log in to each Gateway and check that credentials are configured and that the Gateway software is up to date.

Go to Administration > Gateways to see information for the Gateways in your organization.

1. Enter the IP addresses or address range of the SNMPv1, SNMPv3, NetBotz, and Redfish devices to discover, or import a device list.

2. Click the arrow to display all available Gateways in your organization. Select up to three Gateways to discover devices on.

Gateways that do not meet requirements for device discovery are not listed.

Offline Gateway are listed. Make sure to choose Gateways that are online.

Go to Administration > Gateways to see the status of the Gateways in your organization.

3. Click Configure credentials.

At least one Discovery and Polling and one Device File Transfer credential per Gateway is required.

IMPORTANT: If you create or modify credentials on any Gateway while logged in to ITE, refresh the ITE page before you proceed with discovery.

4. Click Discover devices.

All discovered devices are listed on the Devices page in All locations. You can move devices into other locations after discovery.

Discovered devices are visible in IT Expert and on all the selected Gateways.

All the Gateways that have discovered the device are listed in Properties on the device details page.

Discovery results are displayed in the summary including discovered devices, devices that require attention, and unsupported devices that were not discovered. Click View details.

Click View log to see details and see discovery results in the discovery log.

SNMP devices that cannot be automatically identified after discovery are listed in the discovery results as Unable to identify devices.
To complete the discovery, log in to the Gateway(s) and select the DDF to use for this device.

If you find that one or more of your devices is not supported, you can request device support.

Note: Your APC NMC3 devices might be configured to limit the number of failed login attempts. If the number of device file transfer credentials you provide in the Gateway exceeds the number of failed login attempts allowed on the NMC3 device, the device might be locked.
