trying to set up a modbus export module in a VIP to send data to an ION meter

We are trying to move data from a VIP to a BMS system.  We would like ti use modbus to do this and was thinking about using an ION meter to do this.

Hello @james_bougie_gp

To have VIP write a value to an ION meter, the easiest way to do this is with a Distributed numeric module on VIP linked to External numeric on the ION meter. Then have External number linked to desired modbus slave module. The distributed numeric modules do have default modbus maps if you would prefer to use those.

On A side note, with PME 2020, I believe the VIP can now be configured as a modbus TCP slave.

Regards,

Charles

Hello,

In management console, you can setup device security. I would make sure the user setup there is correct.

Hello @Charles_Murison and @james_bougie_gp

In PME 9.0, I set this up and received the following error in the "Event" Output registers of the Distributed numeric module: "Write Failed - Insufficient security to perform Distributed Control Operation"
I may need to modify something on the Data Monitor module, Distributed Numeric module or the External Numeric module or a meter or VIP security setting...
Please see screenshots below for more information. Any and all help is much appreciated!

The outputs below are:
1) Value (31) from Arithmetic module generated in the meter.
2) Value from Ext Num 4, which is linked from the VIP, arithmetic module
3) Value from Ext Num 5, which is linked from the VIP, counter module

I was able to resolve the write fail by:
1) In Designer, setting the Data Monitor Module source input to be the external numeric module on the meter
Data Monitor module Source.JPG
2) As you advised, in Management Console, setting up the security settings for the meter to default user, standard security and matching the password to the meter's password
Match password.JPG
3) Restarting the VIP service
4) Disabling the meter connection in management console for a minute and then enabling it

Thank you for your patience in helping me resolve this issue!
