Hi,
Is it possible for an ION7650 or 8650 to operate on 2 x Ethernet networks with 2 x separate IP addresses?
I'm almost certain the meter does not support dual comms cards, but if we get a comms card with both FX and TX ports, is it possible for two completely segregated Ethernet networks to both monitor the meter?
Regards,
Steven Yan

Hello Yan,
The short answer is neither the 7650 nor the 8650 can support 2 seperate IP address on the same device. One option would be to use Ethernet (copper or fibre) to serial converter and connect the converter to the serial port on the meter, that way each network would have its own IP address.

Alternatively use a firewall or other NAT type device to present multiple IP addresses to the outside world and convert the requests to the single IP on the protected network side. This would also allow more authentication of the meter requests if that is a requirement (like only allowing connections from specific IP addresses). Note that this solution is probably way more elaborate than is needed though.

Hi Charles,
A previous integrator had done this but unfortunately the customer complained of the slow speed on the side with serial.
But it looks like it's probably the simplest way.

Thanks Hal, probably too elaborate unfortunately, will require someone from their IT department to get involved, we try and avoid this when possible.
