Hello,
is there some plans to have new firmware version of 8650 that enable use alphanumeric password (letter , character and numbers) in standard security mode?
we know in the advanced security is it possible program complex password but in Braizil utilities market the companies read the meters with management software from other manufaturers not only ION ENTERPRISE.
This way some of this softwares cannot read the meters when advanced security is in enabled. One utility very important request us this information because they want to improve the security of their meters to prevent theft.

Allowing standard security to allow non-numeric passwords would involve changes to both firmware and software (PME/ION Setup) for very little benefit. Technically you could turn on Advanced Security, make User1 only have read-only access with a default password of "0" (zero) and make that public to accomplish almost the same thing (other vendors who already support ION protocol separately would be need to perform a slight alteration to their ION packets to support this and it would still work for basic security since they wouldn't be making changes).
How are the other vendors communicating to the ION meter? Using ION protocol?

Hello,
I think your suggestion is very good and we will try to go ahead with some tests following you.
If you have some tip regarding this change please share with us.
But it was nice if user1 with read only permission works as "standard security" them no need to perform changes in the softwares.
Because we have two special situations:
very legacy softwares then manufacturers doesn´t develop new drivers
Also we have in local market some equpments that read the meters over SERIAL port for energy management and load scheding then maybe the little change require some change in firmware of this equipments.
These 3rd part vendors read the ION METER using ION protocol.
