SCADAPACK 535E STATUS LED REMAINS LIT (RED) AFTER REBOOT

HI ALL

I started a thread earlier about my SCADAPack 535E rPAC losing configuration and

had great discussion with @BevanWeiss  ,

Now I had to start new thread as this is really weird and very confusing , Sometimes when I reboot the RTU it would

not go RUN mode , it will start with status led off then it will go on for ten seconds , after that it will blink on and off for

about ten seconds and at last it will remain lit forever and it will not respond to any connection attempt

This scenario should happen when someone tries to cold boot or factory boot the RTU ,

The only solution is to keep the RTU powered off for a day or two

then it can be started normally

I have upgraded the firmware and boot loader for the RTU to the latest versions

firmware v 8.14.7

boot loader v 1.30

this was happening before the update and still happening after.

I thought the update would correct this issue, but it did not

thank you in advance

And to confirm you are NOT depressing the SELECT button at ANY time during this occurring?

What supply voltage are you powering the SP535E Controller (the top terminals) via?

Have you confirmed that the power supply has an adequate startup current capability?

I've seen several amps drawn at startup of a SP535E, so the power supply should be capable of this kind of consumption momentarily without dropping the voltage below 11.5V (12V for good measure).

Does this happen even if you DO NOT load an RTU configuration into the unit? (i.e. Factory Boot as per 10.4 of the Hardware Manual and then just leave it powered on for several days, then remove power, and re-apply)  It should have DNP3 address 0, and Factory Default settings for ports.

If it still does this on a Factory Boot, then you should connect a serial port connection to Port 4, and use HyperTerminal or a similar Terminal program to observe the boot messages.  It should reveal the issue.

Thanks @BevanWeiss

Just back from the site where the RTU located,

I carried out checks you mentioned in your  last  reply

1/ The SELECT push button is not pushed at any time during RTU startup

2/ Applied voltage to the RTU remains constant at 24v DC during startup , so no drop in voltage happens due to excessive amps drawn (check done twice)

I also disconnected ALL wiring and ethenet cables to the RTU just to make sure that nothing from outside affect the boot process (I know this has nothing to do with booting up)

Yes this happens even without the configuration files being loaded to the RTU

Looks like I have to try connecting to serial port through port 4 with hyper terminal

please watch this video, It was recorded 3 hours ago

I've never seen a SP535E with the DIP switch exposed.  It normally has a metal sheet still covering it.

Although I've just looked at the hardware manual and it does show the exposed upper rotary switch.  So my memory must be deceiving me.

I think that you might need to contact Schneider Tech Support about getting an RMA for this unit.

If it's misbehaving after a Factory Boot then it seems like a hardware issue (from that video it seems like the SELECT pushbutton is stuck 'on').

I appreciate your contribution @BevanWeiss

Am I still able to connect to the RTU through serial port 4 by means of Teminal software??

I have done updating with 2 RTUs

for both main firmware and 6601 I/O

when I came to third one , firmware and boot loader were OK for the RTU ,  but when trying update for I/O module , it looks like the RTU can not "see" the 6601 I/O modules

it says " make sure that the I/O modules are configured

and the version of the firmware of module shows 0.00.0 when refreshing the general page

I've never seen a 'Configuration File Invalid' error after a Factory Restart.

Only ever after having downloaded a configuration to it.

And normally you could then check the config.log file which will contain the error

If you get that error after a Factory Restart, I'd contact Schneider Tech Support.
