Dears,
We have a redundant M580 HSBY system divided into two separate, distant, and identical locations that should serve as one system.
Each location contains:
The available fiber link between the two locations is designated for:
Referring to the Modicon M580 Complex Topologies System Guide, Page 177, we need your recommendations for implementing the High-Capacity Daisy Chain Loop (HCDL) architecture in this M580 HSBY system.
We are considering establishing a dedicated VLAN on the main network switches to isolate HCDL traffic from other network traffic.
Question:
Is there anything specific to consider within the main switches or the M580 HSBY configuration for this setup?
Your advice and insights will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Hello TheLegendTMX,
It would be convenient if you shared in a schematic form the architecture that you propose, so that we can get an idea of what you are proposing.
Just remember that the HSBY Link must be a dedicated point-to-point connection without elements between CPUs.
The architectures proposed in the document you mention are validated with Schneider Dual Ring equipment. If you want to use other Switch devices, I would recommend consulting your country's technical support as it requires a thorough analysis of the entire architecture.
I would advise you to review the following manual
Modicon M580 HotStandby System Planning Guide for Frequently Used Architectures

Dear Ricard,
Thank you for your prompt response and valuable insights.
I have attached the schematic of our current network architecture for your review and convenience. As mentioned earlier, we have ensured that the HSBY link is a dedicated point-to-point connection without any elements between the CPUs, as recommended.
Question:
Is there anything specific to consider within the main switches or the M580 HSBY configuration for this setup?
We appreciate your expertise and look forward to your advice.
Best regards,

Hi, No issue with your architecture in terms of the HSBY link on Single mode fiber. However the
is a problem. Schneider only recommend the use of BMXNRP cards or the
Extended Modicon switches in the RIO network between the CPU and the CRA cards in the RIO's. Reason is there are a number of specific configuration settings to be done to guarantee the response and recovery times. The PLC tag the RIO comms VLAN 1 which cannot be changed as well.

Hello All
Everything that the colleague says is correct. I advise you to review the following document and to propose the architecture to your Schneider Electric contact or the Technical Support of your country.

Dear Hennie,
Thank you for your valuable feedback.
We kindly request detailed information on the specific configuration settings required to ensure the appropriate response and recovery times for the RIO network. We believe these settings can be implemented on our existing Layer 3 network switches (SGS-6310-48P6XR).
Additionally, we would appreciate clarification on your statement:
"The PLC tag the RIO comms VLAN 1 which cannot be changed as well."
Could you please elaborate on the significance of this constraint and its potential impact on our architecture?
Looking forward to your advice.
Best regards,

Hi,
The PLC CPU to RIO uses Vlan 1. The PLC tags all communication to the RIOs and there is no option to change this to a different Vlan. Your drawing indicated you would like Vlan 2 for the RIO comms but that is not possible.
Regarding the SGS switches, your switch would most probably incorporate all the functions, however Schneider cannot guarantee the correct operation with any other switch than the Extended Modicon switches which has gone through thorough validation. As Ricard indicated, best to stick to the recommended architectures to ensure a solid solution or contact your local technical support to assist.
