The latest version of ClearSCADA (2009 R2) contains version 7.5.0 of the Sentinel Drivers for supporting dongle licenses. An incompatibility has been found between the Safenet drivers and Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.
When performing an upgrade or repair on an existing installation on a Windows XP SP3 or Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 machine that has Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 installed, the install process will fail with the following error message.
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as a part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
Clicking Ok on this message displays another
Fatal error during installation.
Fresh installations of ClearSCADA will be unaffected.
Vista and Server 2008 operating systems are not affected.
Versions Affected
ClearSCADA 2009 R2.
ClearSCADA PRIME 2009 R2.
All other versions of ClearSCADA are unaffected.
Recovery / Work-around
One of two workarounds is available:
- Do not install Internet Explorer 8.
- Rather than modifying or repairing the installation, uninstall ClearSCADA and then rerun the installer for a clean install. Note that server and client configuration settings from the uninstalled version will be maintained.
Current Status
The compatibility issue has been reported to Safenet, who have replicated the issue and confirmed it as a problem. Further information will be posted as it becomes available.
