📖HomeBack A modem may be shared between 2 pager services. To do this, you need to install the port server software on a ClearSCADA server or remote PC. The port server software is an application that can share serial ports to ClearSCADA servers. In this case, you would configure the port server to share a serial port for use by ClearSCADA for two different pager services. The port server software can be run on the ClearSCADA server or installed on another computer.
When you have installed the port server software (see ClearSCADA Help for instructions), you must use ViewX to configure a PSTN channel for each driver that will share the modem. The channels must be configured to have their:
Connection Type set to Remote Serial
Node Name set to either:
The name/address of the remote PC (when the port server is installed on a remote PC).
Port set to the same port on each channel (this must be the port to which the modem is connected)
Shared setting enabled.
Each channel can have different port settings (baud rate, data bits etc.) if required as the port server will change the settings automatically before each outgoing call. Similarly, the channels can also have different modem commands (again, the port server will change the modem command as required).
For more information on modem sharing and port sharing, please refer to the Set Up a Port Server section of the Server Administration Guide in ClearSCADA Help.
