CompactNS Modbus communication
Hi All
We need to transfer metering data from our CompactNS NS800N Micrologic 5.0E to our control system. We have an IFE module, but there doesn't appear to be a ULP connection in the circuit breaker. The documentation seems to imply a BCM ULP module is required, but this was not an available option when the breaker was ordered.
What are our options? Retrofit a BCM ULP module, or can we somehow connect ULP directly to the trip unit?
I have attached photos of the circuit breaker.
Thanks

Hello,
BCM is behind the micrologic unit, as we have optical communication between micrologic unit and BCM ULP.
You will need BCM + cable. Even if it is not preferred option BCM ULP is also able to communicate over modbus rtu without any additional hardware. When using IFE this is almost plug and play.
Depending on what you want to measure you might need to add the microswitch to monitor breaker status.
BCM can be added PN is 33106.
Take into account to power the micrologic unit using an AD1 PSU in order to have the monitoring always powered.

Hello @MichaelBelperio1 ,
Some reference guides for you:
- MasterPact NT/NW, Compact NS Modbus comm guide
- ULP Guide
- BCM Guide (p.31 in English) ONLY FOR OLD DEVICES before 2008.
As mentioned by @Guillaume_Evrard , you need an BCM ULP + cord to make your Micrologic 5.0E communicate with upstream system. Micrologic terminal block does not provide any communication with other systems.
The old reference of BCM had a Modbus COM option integrated (year 2004 with green terminal block). This was a legacy comm system. Now better use the most recent version of BCM (year 2008 with grey terminal block). You will need an IFM or IFE to convert ULP to Modbus (serial or TCP).
The main difference between these 2 BCM versions is the Modbus Dataset included in the BCM. If you want to connect your BCM directly in Modbus without IFM/IFE, the modbus addressing may be complicated to implement (cradle management, breaker management) and if you are using Schneider software like PME or Power Operation, you may lost some data.
To summarize please use:
- BCM connected to your trip unit
- ULP cord connected to the BCM
- IFM connected to the ULP cord if you need Modbus serial or daisy chain more breaker through Modbus
- IFE connected to the ULP cord if you need Modbus TCP on 1x breaker or to aggregate several IFM
- Refer to the guides 1+2 above to learn more about Breaker Comm System.

Thankyou all for your responses
Can our technicians fit the BCM? Schneider support told me only a schneider tech can do it

Hello,
Removal of micrologic shall be done by Schneider Electric qualified Service teams, but this is the theory.
Do not forget wiring LV434197 and microswitch if required
