Com'X200 Power Options

As you probably already know, the Com'X200 comes with 3 ways to get powered:

  1. 100 -> 230VAC (+/- 15%)
  2. 24VDC (+/- 10%)
  3. PoE

What you might less be aware of is that you can use multiple ways to power your box to provide redundancy.

For example you can use Option 1 (VAC) and have a small 24V UPS on Option 2. Which means that if Option 1 goes down, it will automatically switch to Option 2.

Order of redundancy is as described: first the box will use the VAC, if not available, it goes to VDC. Finally if not available it goes to PoE.

Finally not that only one of the ethernet port is PoE enabled and there's a small marking on the box to remind you which one (the left one!).

Would there be any issues if the customer were to power up ComX200 with 240VAC and 24VDC at the same time, where 24VDC is a back up supply.

or POE with 240VAC/24VDC as a back up supply simulateously.

Would there be any priority issue?

No issue at all! That's the all point.

The priority goes as followed: VAC, then VDC, then PoE.

So again, typically I would plug the VAC and then have a small DIN-Railed 24VDC UPS for backup!

Beware that on the VAC power supply side, even though some of the old documentation mentions 277VAC, the first release will only go up to 230VAC (+/- 15%). (Thanks !)

Not aware of any, but doesn't mean we don't have one...

Hello ,

Is the PoE Injector Kit, TCSEAV0100, what you are looking for?

Here is a link to the installation guide (63230-319-206): http://download.schneider-electric.com/files?L=en&p=&p_docId=&p_docId=&p_Reference=63230-319-206&p_E... guide&p_File_Id=27448644&p_File_Name=63230-319-206.pdf

I'm not sure why that link broke... Here it is.

This is soooo good! As per this old thread we really really needed this (especially now that it has the latest Ethernet Gateway functionality!) and this fixes a lot of problems we were having creating redundancy (unable with EGX)

Any chance this could also be an ION Protocol Gateway in a future firmware? (basically - a straight serial port encapsulation with no protocol conversion) - - we are buying Lantronix now for this. Why not offer it as a setting for our new device here?

ION protocol is on the roadmap.  You will see it on the new gateway offers first. Later it will make its way on to the Energy Servers.

Is the Com'X 200 (210/510) powered by POE able to power all the Outputs, wireless, and future expansion modules without limitations? Do we know the limitations if any? Any increase thermal issues?

Hi Jonathan,

there's at least one limitation specified (on the technical Leaflet that comes with the datalogger) which is that the GPRS dongle can't work with PoE.

On top of that, the PoE standard (802.3af) on COM'X200 grant at most around 13W, while the COMX max consumption is 26W. So it's possible that there are more limitations.

Hope it helps

Thanks for the quick answer. Is this a short term situation (with GPRS) that will be fixed with a FW or HW (210 / 510) update?
