Com X for AU market - EBXA-GPRS modem being dis-continued - alternatives listed

FYI on the plug-in modem module for the ComX units.

TELCO's in the AU region are in the process of shutting down the 2G phone network over the next 6 months.
The EBXA-GPRS modem currently sold in AUS in only suitable for 2G.

EBXA-GPRS is a serial type modem that requires the ComX firmware to natively support any modem plugged into it (as the ComX unit does not support loading of 3rd party USB drivers).

Attached document has recommendations for alternatives, all using Ethernet connectivity.

All suggestions also employ external antenna or external modem/router/ etc to negate any loss/limitation of reception signal if the ComX unit is installed into a metal enclosure.

Hi Brett,

Thanks for posting this. Because each region has different needs and requirements, we are currently having the countries choose which modems they recommend for users in their area. These modems that the Com'X connects to via Ethernet have very low risk of causing any installation issues. However, since the countries are the ones recommending specific modems, I want to point out that the Com'X team has not done verification on each selected modem type.

Best Regards,

Colton Peltier

Also there is a cost factor considering the previous plug-in serial modem (EBXA-GPRS) was fairly cheap.

Our preference is for the ethernet type connection so that the modem can be remote located easier
(mounted external to the metal distribution board the ComX unit typicalyl is installed in).

The flexibility of being able to mount your "ethernet modem" somewhere else in the plantroom is a huge benefit to increasing your modem signal reception.
