More question from who wanted to know how many devices you could put on a CanBus network, and what were the wiring distances.
First, with regards to number of devices, even though a generic canbus network can support up to 120 nodes, the low level Can2Go framework will limit your network to 25 nodes! (note that this is the same as the Zigbee network).
When it comes to distance, this will vary depending on the speed of your network.
CANbus transfer rate is proportional to the total chain-link length. This setting is configurable through the Building Expert Web interface.
- 125Kbps: Up to 500m (1500 feet)
- 250kbps: Up to 250m (750 feet)
- 500kbps: Up to 100m (300 feet)
Also do remember to put a 120Ohms resistor at the beginning and the end of your network!!!
