monitor the electricity load on the server

Hello

is it possible to monitor the electricity load on the server by installing the ip power control muddle - not using smart PDU's ?

tnx

Dear Yaron Davidof,

From your question:

...by installing the ip power control muddle - not using smart PDU's ?

I guess you meant "ip power control module" 😀. If this is true, then it is quite possible.

To do this, you just need to check on web-resource Device Support whether your "ip power control mudule" supports the DCE software? If this is true, then you will need to download corresponding DDF-file from the above web-resource and follow the instructions to import it into DCE software. If you are unlucky and your "ip power control mudule" is not supported by DCE software, then you need to make a new Request device support. How to do it you can see in the video instructions or read in the topic .

I hope this is what you need.

With respect.

You can use snmp, ipmi, wmi, and maybe some other server side functions to obtain data from and about servers, switches, routers, etc - there are varying degrees of data you can obtain - you don't need to buy another module from Schneider, DCO will receive the data.

Dear Eric Clark,

It all depends on what Yaron Davidof really needs.

You can use snmp, ipmi, wmi, and maybe some other server side functions to obtain data from and about servers...

This method can monitor only the so-called estimated or computed"electricity load on the server", which often does not strongly coincide with the real or measured "electricity load on the server". Look, for example, my example from a real server cabinet:

Therefore, if Yaron Davidof needs to monitor the real or measured "electricity load on the server", then it is necessary to have any real power meter (it does not matter, native Schneider Electric or 3rd party). This power meter must have either SNMP or Modbus protocol connection. And then for this power meter, DDF team can create the appropriate DDF-file for DCE software and transfer the "electricity load on the server" real values to the DCO software.

If there are more questions, please ask.

With respect.

Nickel and Dime.

I come across this at absolutely every corner.

So monumentally disappointing.

Today the module called IT Optimize can be used to leverage protocols like IPMI to pull direct power data from server motherboards using IPMI protocol to communicate to the servers management card (ilo, idrac, imm and so on).

These features will eventually move to the ecostruxure it expert gateway at which point the protocols used to collect direct power data might change.

Regards

Greg Sterling

Dear Greg Sterling and Eric Clark,

From your comment:

Today the module called IT Optimize can be used to leverage protocols like IPMI to pull direct power data from server motherboards using IPMI protocol to communicate to the servers management card (ilo, idrac, imm and so on).

This is both good and bad at the same time 😀. Let me remind you, as I wrote in topic :

"Schneider Electric IT Optimize" is the actually borrowed 😀 software of "Intel Datacenter Manager (Intel DCM): Energy Director":

Intel® Data Center Manager
Intel® Data Center Manager (Intel® DCM)
is a standalone power management
solution for the data center. Intel DCM
provides accurate, real-time power and
thermal monitoring and management
for individual servers, groups of servers,
racks, and IT equipment such as power
distribution units. Intel DCM provides
benefits for both IT and facility
administrators, enabling these groups
to collaborate to reduce the data center
energy footprint.
For more information about Intel DCM,
visit http://software.intel.com/sites/
datacentermanager

For servers and other computing equipment, this means compatibility only with x86 Intel microprocessor architecture in general. This is an important limitation.

Look closely at my screenshot above: this is a real server cabinet of a real data center. There are used IBM Power series multi-block servers with RISC microprocessor architecture. In addition, IBM Storwize series data storage are also visible there, with x86 Intel microprocessor architecture. But unfortunately, this data storage, as well as many other modern data storage of all leading vendors (the same can be said about 3PAR HPE or DELL EMC, for example), is absolutely incompatible with any of the above mentioned protocol (no snmp, no ipmi, no wmi, etc.).

I discussed this question with Intel personnel in 2013-2014 years. That's why we almost do not use the above software. That's why for a large number of IT equipment, after all, installation of real power meters is required. Only in this case, using the protocol SNMP or Modbus, you can monitor the real power of any IT equipment using DCE or other software.

Or you can use IT Optimize (aka Intel DCM), and with only the SNMP protocol (Modbus, as far as I know not supported) monitor real power meters for your servers. This will be a workaround 😀.

If you have any more questions, please ask.

With respect.
