how to configure a DCE server to discover devices on a different DCE servers private LAN in a remote location

I have multiple DCE servers in different locations and would like to share device data on both DCE servers. The devices are on the private LANs of both servers.

Hi Tony,

Assuming the private LANs are set up correctly and there is no v-LAN secondary access to the private LAN, there is no way for one DCE server to discover the devices on the private LAN of another DCE server. You can't do SNMP GETs through DCE from public to private. If the 2 servers shared the same physical private LAN and only one had it's DHCP server configured, you should be able to then monitor each device with multiple DCE servers.

We also have a DCO server, how can it receive data from both DCE servers without a problem? I don’t have to discover the devices on both DCE servers private LAN but is there a way to share the data and alarms?

Tony.

When you go in to add an external server, you're not limited to one server. If both servers are monitoring the same devices, I'm not sure how DCO might interpret that. Then again, since DCO can pull from 2 DCE servers or more, you shouldn't need to add the devices to multiple servers other than for redundancy purposes.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. I was using the statement about the DCO server as an example of its ability to receive data and alarms from multiple DCE servers. I would like to receive data and alarms from devices on one DCE servers private LAN and display it on a different DCE server. All devices have been discovered on their respective DCE servers, I just want to monitor them from one. Proxy? Tunnel?

Hi Tony,

Sorry if I misunderstood but as noted in my first response, you can't discover devices that are on the private LAN of another DCE unless they share private LANs and both discover the same devices.

Also, DCE itself has no mechanism to show the alarms from another DCE server.

I do believe that with the new "Struxure-On" feature, you can see all the alerts from all of your devices and DCE servers in one place. You may want to take a look at the documentation for it here:

What is StruxureOn?

I can already see all the alarms from both DCE servers on DCO.
