dce client can't connect to server

Hi,

we found interesting situation with DCE client 7.2.6-24.

When connecting to datacenter via VPN from computer #1 I've got ip address (for example x.x.x.10).

Then I launch DCE client and successfully connecting to DCE server.

Then I close DCE client, disconnect VPN on computer #1,and connect VPN on computer #2 with same credentials and got same ip address x.x.x.10. Download and install DCE client, run it and try to connect to the same DCE server and here I got error message: "Either the address specified is an invalid address, or the connection timeout. Enter a valid hostname/ip address, or increase the connection timeout and try again." Increasing timeout as proposed is nothing.

Ports 80, 443 are opened, firewall on computer #2 is completely disabled. Test connection via telnet to 80,443 ports on server are ok.

.log file in "C:\Users\\.isxc\7.2.6\.metadata" on computer #2 is absent.

Hi Alex,

I have seen issues with VPN connections in the past. Just the fact that server #1 is able to access the DCE server shows that the server itself is accepting incoming connections and is working as designed. I'm also assuming that if you connect to the DCE server with any local system, you'll be able to access DCE as well. 

I have also seen where if you do not connect to a server, no .metadata/.log file will be created. The same thing will happen if you type in an incorrect IP. Server #2 simply can't access it. Have you also tried launching a browser from server #2? Since we're just using http (or HTTPS depending on your settings) the browser should have similar connections. If we're not connecting, the nbc.xml will not show anything from this failed connection.

You noted that the firewall has been turned off but have you also turned off any antivirus? I've seen antivirus stop specific apps from connecting over the network. Additionally, routers also have firewalls so there could be something on the network blocking it as well.

If you run a packet capture on the DCE segment (mirror the port or put DCE and a laptop on a hub) My guess is that DCE is not seeing any packets from the server #2. you'll need to disconnect server #1 for such a test as you noted they're getting the same IP. If as I suspect we're not seeing any packets from server #2, you'll need to address this in your networking and there's little we can do to help.
