Dear Glenn,

I suggest you to use the Custom Properties option in DCE software. You can update the date manually under Customer Properties for each device after you discovered the device so that you will know when the device was added to DCE software.

The Custom property field can also be added in your report.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Bala

Hi Glenn Mark,

I.e., do you need a date when the device was added to the DCE-server?

With respect.

On the application itself.

What I am trying to get is an inventory with the date of addition on the DCE application.

i can only see the below fields on the report.

IP Address
Hostname
Model
Serial Number
Firmware
Location
Label

Would it be possible to get the device date added information in DCE 7.4.1?

Probably, you wanted to write: "...to get the device data added information" πŸ˜€.

As far as I know, this is impossible. But I see no problem for you to create the appropriate Feature requests and maybe this will be implemented.

Additionally, notice the Custom Property option for devices in the DCE-server. Information on this can be found on page Manage Custom Property Keys (Device menu). I hope this helps you.

With respect.

πŸ˜€, Ok, then the next question:

...added in DCE for reporting.

Or did you want to write: "...added in DCE for monitoring."

What kind of report do you mean?

If I understand you correctly, then unfortunately, your wish is also impossible to fulfill.

With respect.

would be possible to generate report on the age of equipment base on APC serial number? that would help a lot to schedule replacement end of life APC equipment.

Thanks,

Minh

Hi Minh,

By default, the products such as Smart UPS, Symmetra UPSs come with the following sensors such as UPS Age, Battery Age. Using these Sensors, you can generate the report. You can also make use of the Custom Property feature which will allow you to update the last battery replacement date, Installation date etc., for each product. The serial number may not be the right indicator to know the life cycle as the installation date may vary from the day the product was manufactured.

Regards,

Bala

Hi Balaraman,

Thanks for quick respond.

the reason I asked is we are monitoring over 650 devices, most of them are APC, and our senior manager want to know what age of those devices and when are due to replace. Not just only UPS, CRAC, also PDUs, ATS, Netbotz, sensors

As recently, we got one ATS is fail, and found out that it's 15+ years old.

So i need to generate reports rather than manually look at serial #.

If you guy can do that, it will be game changing in DCIM industry.

Thanks,

Minh

Hi Minh,

This feature is already available in DCE, but with a little manual effort in an excel. You can generate the Inventory report of the devices from DCE by using the Device View Option-Export that includes serial number of all the products. APC Product Serial number is very easy to decode. It is 12 digits serial number. Based on the serial number of the product, you can know on when the product was manufactured.

For example: This UPS was manufactured in 2002 year, and 49th Week of 2002. The 3rd and 4th Digit indicate the year the product was manufactured, and 5th and 6th both indicate the Week the product was manufactured in that year. Therefore, you can know the manufactured year and week if you can generate and export the inventory report in an excel file. And then you can work out in an excel to get the age of your products by serial numbers in an excel file.

I hope it helps.

Regards,

Bala

Hi Balaraman,

Thanks for this information.

This is good for future additional devices.

But those which were added before will not have this information.

Thanks and Regards,

Glenn
