I suppose this is a feature request, but we routinely can't access the update site from DCE which makes pushing firmware a convoluted process at times.
This would be simpler if DCE would keep a backup copy of the catalog for when it can't reach the update site.

Hi Sam,
StruxureWare will go out and find the most recent firmware when you request it...assuming it can reach the site. If it does reach the site, it will download what is available. Those downloads are not deleted. If you download a 6.4.x version of firmware and do not use it, the system does not delete it, it remains in the system.
If the system can not reach the site but you need the most recent updates available, you can also go to www.apc.com/tools/download and download a zip file version of the catalog. Please keep in mind that both the DCE hitting the update server as well as the catalog file do not always have the most recent versions of the available device firmware. DCE's update and the catalog update can only be configured after the individual files are made available for download and at times it may be a few weeks until the latest is available in either form of the catalog.
Thanks,
Steve.

I second Sam's question. I use the offline file where I download the file and then I have to upload it into DCE. It seems random when I go into DCE to push a firmware and the files are gone.
I then have to upload the file again. I haven't found a rhyme or reason why. Seems like a bug to me.
The issue I have is multiple people push firmware files however I am the only one who knows where the zip file is located to upload it into the server. That is so I can ensure the latest file it uploaded. So I am constantly getting calls to re-upload the file because DCE drops it for some reason.
Regards,
J

Hi John,
I have not seen where the files just disappear. I do know that if the devices are upgraded, they won't show that they are able to be upgraded again. If a device runs 6.2.x firmware and the catalog has 6.4.x, it should show that the device has the available upgrade. After the upgrade, that device should no longer show upgrade options. f you add a new device with older firmware however, it should indeed show the upgrade as an option.
I do recall seeing starting in 7.2 that if you upload the catalog and then choose the option to check for updates and you do not have update capabilities (can not connect to updates.apc.com with DCE) that the update would disappear and they're looking into that. It is noted in k-base FA239230. If you know there is no connectivity, please make sure they don't keep trying the update option

P.S.
If you do have issues connecting, make sure there is no scheduled checks for updates (noted in k-base too)
