What is the format of APC/Schneider code version numbering?

For instance :

SUMX 6.5.6 / 6.5.6 - this is for a "network card"

One of these 2 code versions is the UI, and the other is the actual operating system of the card.

What I am looking for is this format :

6.5.6

x.y.z

x = major release most likely - please confirm

Y = feature release ? or something else ?

Z = hot fix ?

This would be useful in my evaluating how far "off" a device is from 1 code version versus another.

for instance, if 6.5.6 is newest, and I have equipment using 6.4.0 or 6.5.0, how far out of date are these - really? what types of updates might I have to go through to see if it is worth the risk of an upgrade ?

Hello Eric Clark,

The versioning is outlined a little bit the End of Life policy, found here: Schneider Electric End of Life Policy

"Software Versioning: A three-digit number in X.Y.Z format where each letter represents a particular version type. The letter X is considered a “platform” version. The letter Y is considered a major version. The letter Z is considered a minor version."

Network Management Cards (NMCs) have two different version due to the operating system (AOS) and the application file (APP) which is device specific. As far as I know there are no specific standards to differentiate a major version versus a minor version.

From experience I would say that a major revision most likely includes some new feature and possibly some bug files. From my experience I would say that minor revisions usually contain only bug fixes. Note that this is only from experience and may be different from actual version code number usage.

Also, to add to what Cory said and specific to NMC, you don't have to do incremental upgrades (usually) like you do with DCE or other products. Unless otherwise stated for certain products (cooling, 3ph especially) if you're at 6.4.0 for example, you can go right to 6.5.6 or whatever the latest is. (There is a 6.6.4 coming soon for most apps as well so you can go straight to that as well.)
