WEBMIN not working...

Hi,

We have recently installed Struxureware DCO. While configuring the port 10000 was used for Webmin configuration, but recently owing to some internal network policies port 10000 is used for some other network requirements and no more allowed to use the same. The result is now when we try to open up Webmin it shows PAGE TIME OUT message. Rest Struxureware DCO client works perfectly fine.

Is their any way we can check whether our WEBMIN service is running ok or not using some other means?

Is their any way we can change webmin port  from command prompt?

E

Hi Vineet,

Please use the below mentioned command in the command prompt to check the webmin service running or not.

Command:

root@operations:~#

root@operations:~# service webmin status

Webmin (pid 1738) is running

Command used to check the webmin pid

root@operations:~# ps -eaf | grep webmin
root      1738     1  0 Jul30 ?        00:00:19 /usr/bin/perl /usr/share/webmin/miniserv.pl /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf
root     31367 28433  0 08:57 pts/0    00:00:00 grep webmin

Satish, the idea is to change the Webmin port from 10000 to let's say 10079 while the Ops is already running, so what is the command to change that?

Why don't we have option of changing Webmin port, when we configure the server first time at root prompt or initial configuration screens or perhaps I may have overlooked?

Hi  Vineet,

To change the default Webmin port from 10000 to xxxxx, all we need to do is

Login to webmin page

Click on Webmin > Webmin configuration > Ports and Addresses > change 10000 to xxxxx?

Thanks

Satish

Satish, can you attach snapshots for this since I have tried getting to root and shooting VI with this command but nothing happens...Is it because of 7.4 version since in 7.4 we have to get inside sudo mode to run services...

Hi Vinteet,

Using Satish description you should be able to change the port. However please note that we do not officially support changing port on the services we rely on, and during future upgrades, firewall changes etc. you might experience issues.

You could also use SSH Port forwarding to get around the port blocking. There's plenty of guides on google on the subject. Here's a few that works on Windows:

http://howto.ccs.neu.edu/howto/windows/ssh-port-tunneling-with-putty/

http://www.cs.uu.nl/technical/services/ssh/putty/puttyfw.html

Regards,

Mads

Vineet, is the DCO server IP shared with a network device? Can you be a bit more specific.
