Hi all,
I will have to upgrade ISX Central Basic v6.2 to the latest version of DCE.
Here is my plan A:
6.2 : complete backup (just in case) --> 6.3 --> 7.0 --> 7.2 --> 7.2.1 --> 7.2.2 --> 7.2.4 --> 7.2.5 --> 7.2.6 --> 7.2.7
I think it works but it is going to be time-consuming. So I think about a
plan B:
6.2 : complete backup --> 6.3 --> 7.0 : complete backup,
--> then total re-intall DCE 7.2.7 (wipe data and configuration)
--> then restore data and configuration with the 7.0 backup
Do you think than plan B can work? Or do you see another way, faster than plan A?
Thank you very much for your support,
Mehdi

Hi Mehdi,
Plan B will not work. You can not restore a backup from 7.0 on 7.2.7. You can only restore a backup from the same version as the backup was created on.
So if you want to keep the data you will need to follow the long upgrade path. Might want to consider to take some backups in between so you don't have to go all the way back if something fails.
Thanks

Hi again,
Thank you very much for the answer, it's very clear. No doubt that I will backup several times in between.
Another question: is there a risk that the old hardware currently supporting ISX Central 6.2 would not be capable to run DCE 7.2.7?
What will happen then:
I don't know exactly how old is the server but it is not older than the ISX Central 6.2 version (has never been upgraded). There are approx. 150 nodes monitored by this DCE.
Thank you,
Mehdi

Hi Mehdi, The specification for the hardware hasn't changed much since 6.2. There is a difference in the hardware we ship when customers purchase the hardware box, but the specs. are almost the same. 150 nodes are not that many nodes, but the performance are of cause depended on what kind of hardware they have today. A Enterprise server has better specifications and can handle up to 4025 nodes, so the 150 nodes shouldn't be a problem at all. A smaller server with lower specification will of cause have to work harder. But all servers should be able to handle 150 nodes. This is for "standard" nodes such as NMC cards which are polled through snmp. It is a different story if the customer for instance runs Netbotz surveillance on 100 cameras. So it is hard to say if the performance will be slow or the upgrade will fail. But my expectation would be that you wouldn't run into problems. Thanks Jesper
